1940 Pontiac Woody Station Wagon

Rare Survivor | Restored | Original wood | $45,000

For sale is a beautifully maintained and mostly restored 1940 Pontiac Special Woody Station Wagon. With only around 300 originally produced and fewer than 100 known to survive, this is a rare opportunity to own a true piece of American automotive history.

This example retains its original all-steel body panels and woodwork. While the exterior has been repainted, the wood remains original and in great condition. It rides on the original frame and drivetrain and still uses a 6-volt electrical system. Power comes from the factory 3.6L inline-6 engine (estimated 100 horsepower), paired to a 3-speed manual transmission. Though the engine appears to have been rebuilt, there is no paperwork to verify this. It starts easily, runs smoothly, and drives beautifully.

The interior presents very well with original features throughout, and the odometer reads just over 24,000 miles. It has manual steering and brakes, typical for the period, but is completely rust-free with solid sheet metal and wood from front to rear.

These prewar Pontiac Woodies were built on a 116-inch wheelbase and weigh approximately 3,000 pounds. Their unique construction, combining hardwood framing with metal panels, made them costly and uncommon even when new. Today, surviving examples are highly collectible and seldom come to market.

This 1940 Pontiac Woody Station Wagon is ideal for collectors, woodie enthusiasts, or anyone looking to own a genuine slice of automotive history. Don’t miss out on this rare opportunity.
